Our beluga calf has a name!
Female calf will be called Nala, which means ‘surprise gift’ in Inuktitut. Staff and volunteers at the Vancouver Aquarium are delighted to share news of the winning choice in a national contest to name the newest beluga calf born on June 7, 2009. Nala is the winning name and is short for Nalautsaagaq, meaning special surprise gift, in the Inuit language of Inuktitut (.. more)

Thriving Miss Daisy
Daisy, the orphaned harbour porpoise rescued in August 2008, has moved house – from the Vancouver Aquarium’s Marine Mammal Rescue Centre to the Aquarium’s main location in Stanley Park. She is now curiously exploring her new home, much to the delight of Aquarium members and visitors. Daisy’s story is truly a tale of success (.. more)

It’s a New Bouncing Baby Beluga Girl!
20-year-old Aurora gave birth to her latest calf at 3:39pm on Sunday, June 7, 2009. This newborn beluga is about 1.5 m long and weighs roughly 60 to 70 kg. She is slate grey, she will gradually lighten as she matures. she is wrinkled for the first few weeks. Trained beluga observers have been watching Aurora around the clock for a few weeks now, in anticipation of her calf’s birth. This 24-hour watch (.. more)
