A look into the history and journey of whales throughout Gwaii Haanas and why protecting these habitats benefits us all.

Host: Don Enright, National Parks Interpretation Specialist, Parks Canada

Lance Barrett-Lennard: “Icons of the Pacific" - Join Dr. Lance Barrett-Lennard, lead Vancouver Aquarium researcher on cetaceans, as he presents new research findings about the abundance, behavior and ecology of Haida Gwaii orcas and humpbacks.

Caitlin Birdsall: “Wild Whales” - Join Caitlin Birdsall from the Cetacean Sightings Network to learn how you can make a difference to our oceans by reporting a whale sighting.

Kathy Heise: “Historical Whale Dynamics” - Join Kathy Heise, marine mammal researcher, to learn about whale populations and impacts of historical whaling in Gwaii Haanas.

Krista Royle and Lindsay McBlane: “Mapping and Modeling Demystified” - Join Krista Royle and Lindsay McBlane, Parks Canada Geomatics specialists, as they deconstruct the complexities of mapping and modeling tools used for Gwaii Haanas.

Marine Poster Contest gallery: “What I Love About the Ocean” - Admire the creative artwork of BC students in grades 4-8 in this display that showcases their love for the ocean. Learn more about this year’s contest.
The series is open to the public and admission is free. Seating is limited.
